Although it was just painted, The Flower Vendor was inspired from a trip I took to Barcelona a few years ago. As we strolled down Les Rambles we were intrigued by the many colorful sights. There were many people posing as human statues and people performing in a variety of ways. There were restaurants, horses and buggies, sellers of vegetables and produce, birds and flowers. This vendor was an older woman, sitting, almost hidden in her assembled garden, seeming a bit bored with her surroundings. To us the whole scene was filled with excitement, yet she had obviously witnessed it so many times that she didn't even see it anymore. This painting received an honorable mention in a recent show.
